If you are into documentaries, and if you are into learning about the world and what is going on in the world(which my dad instill in me to do so), or even if you're not, you should really watch the documentary "National Geographic: Inside North Korea". It will get you interested into what is going on in the world, especially what is happening in North Korea, or should I say what HAS BEEN happening there for a long, long time. Tyler and I watched it last night and are about to finish it. If you don't know anything whatsoever about this small country, about the size of Mississippi, it is a Communist country which worships their dictator in a godlike fashion which is almost mechanical and robotic. The schools brainwash the children from a very early age to worship the dictator, Kim Jong-il and only sing his praises. If you do not or try to leave the country you could be, and more than likely will be, punished by being sent to live in a concentration camp for the rest of your life, basically starved and worked to death. If just one of your family members tries to "escape" the country, as I see it, or go against the government, then the whole rest of your family will be punished even if they were not part of it.
I am very heartbroken over North Korea and its dear people. To live in fear your whole life and forced to worship a imperfect man is devastating. The crazy thing too, is that no one is allowed to have cell phones and the internet is banned. North Koreans have no idea what goes on in the rest of the world. There is no outside news or information about anything offered to the people. Kim Jong-il wants it that way. Can you imagine? Can you imagine one single human controlling your life like that? controlling everyones lives? It's just so sad, so very, very sad. No Americans are allowed in North Korea. There are literally no Americans there at all. They are very anti-American and teach all their children to hate the U.S., which is scary to me. They still blame us for splitting up North & South Korea during the Korean War which was years ago! Talk about a grudge!!
BUT, I know God is bigger than a single man. I know God can tear down this dictatorship and can bring liberation to this desperate nation. Will you pray for North Korea? Will you ask God to not only break your heart over just North Korea, but other countries in desperation like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Burma, etc? Countries that not only need political freedom but spiritual freedom as well. We should be praying for them, but also for our own country as well. The U.S cannot save every country, but we can pray for them and for missionaries to have the courage to go to them, taking the great news of the gospel of Christ to them.
If nothing else, watching this documentary will awaken in you a sense of patriotism. A sense of gratitude for the country you are blessed to live in, for the freedoms we have, especially the freedom of speech and religious freedom. We should all be very, very thankful.
